I wanted to post a thank you to everyone who came out to say Hi and …to buy to the National Harbor Art Expo Show. It was a lot of moving and packing but my brother John and I managed to get the booth up and running by 3pm on Friday.
The booth looked great this year with the new display panels and lights. I’ve enclosed a photo of the booth…with a broad range of the available paintings and prints.
Saturday was the first day open to the public and things started to POP. My first sales were to three 5 year olds. See I get the art collectors started early…. there is no better feeling than to have kids appreciate my art. They are some of the best artists out there!
My booth was right across from the beer tasting stand…so if things started to go badly there would always be a place to hang out! But it was fun…and when I wasn’t chatting it up with my clients, I was over in Dave Cochran, Greg Knott or Dave Schmidt’s booth checking how the show was treating them. The show closed at 5pm and I strolled through the Atrium and Hotel…a first for me! The whole design was great …like a small town under glass! Great restaurants …and atmosphere …I’ll have to take the water taxi (Charlotte…it’s her business.. would love that) over next time and spend the night.
Sunday was the busiest day…non stop chatter and sales all day. Maureen and Jerry Norris came by and purchased several works which I later delivered to their home. Maureen and I had a great time hanging those pictures…”just right” while we sipped on a very nice wine. But she would not let me sip until we were half way through the job. Good idea Maureen! They were really fun and this is one of the perks of doing a show like this. Meeting great peeps who really love your work! Pedro and John helped with the take down and boy was that a madhouse…us and all those exhibitors rushing to the loading docks! But with a lot of serpentine dollies we got it done!
So, Sunday the show was over and I’m now back to the Torpedo Factory all unpacked and ready for another week end! Thanks again John, Pedro and all who showed up and helped make the show a fun event!

Matthew’s art can “move an entire room and people can carry that mood wherever they go”… “I cannot imagine coming home from a rough day at work and feeling ill from looking up at one of his pictures”. It would have to be a day of complete annihilating wretchedness not to be able to rebound from the energy within them…..we have a ton of other gorgeous paintings by painters whose Monet like drawings couldn’t hold a candle to the spirit of Matthew Johnstons’ contemporary work. I hope that the people who really appreciate art have the opportunity to see his work before buying other pictures….”I love contemporary art…It is my hope that he makes it to the very top of the art world someday sooner better than later. Thanks for helping to illumiate part of that pathway”.
